The youth group during our Planning meeting Jan. 16th, 2010, 3rd Sat of January, came up with suggestion to have a group meeting/ study/ discussion after lunch gathering some second Sundays of the month.
The first topic for discussion will be the Origins of the Rosary as suggested by Lani Miranda. This first group study will be on Feb 14. Rosary kits will be distributed for families who want to participate in a Rosary making project. You are all invited to participate and share your knowledge of the Holy Rosary. Bible readings/ study will be for next group discussion.
The youth band will be meeting at Jeremy Halsdorff's house. He will be emailing members re: dates and times.
Other suggested activities were nursing home visits, collecting canned/ dry foods for poor, collecting old jackets for homeless shelters, making holiday cards for sick and elderly.
The Youth Members and Parents/ Leaders are eager to embark on these plans for 2010.
Next Youth meeting falls on Feb. 20th which is our Family Fun Night so we will spend 1-3 pm rehearsing.
Happy Valentines!

Wishing the Filipino Community a Blessed, Happy, Healthy & Prosperous 2010!
Please join us for a Reception after the Mass at the church hall downstairs.
1) In connection to the Earthquake in Haiti, the Archdiocese of Boston has requested a second collection to financially help the Haitian communities devastated by the massive earthquake. The second collection will be taken at all Filipino Apostolate Sunday Masses (Quincy, West Roxbury & Malden) starting this 4th Sunday of January thru the 2nd Sunday of February 2010. Please give generously. Let us help our brothers & sisters in Haiti.
2) Sister Mary Corripio of the Office of Cultural Diversity, Archdiocese of Boston, are looking for volunteers to help priests in the Haitian community keep their churches open, please send your contact information and times you are available to Ms. Lorna DesRoses. Email: ldesroses@rcab.org; ph# 617-746-5810.
We are hoping to create a list of volunteers who are willing to support the Haitian parishes in their efforts to keep their doors open for the Haitian community to pray and worship. The parishes are:
St. Angela, Mattapan (near Dorchester)
St. Matthew, Dorchester
Christ the King, Brockton
St. Ann, Somerville
Immaculate Conception, Everett
John the Evangelist, Cambridge
Our Lady of Grace, Chelsea
St. Mary, Lynn
Volunteers should be able to drive to one of these churches and stay for 2-3 hours, working with the priest to be present in the church while people come and go for prayer.
3) Lenten Season starts on Ash Wednesday, 17 February 2010. In preparation for Lent, the Couples for Christ (CFC) movement is inviting the Filipino community to attend a 2-days Annual Family Lenten Retreat on February 20-21, 2010 at the Divine Mercy Shrine in Stockbridge, MA. For details and registration, pls visit their website at http://cfc-ma.com/lentenretreat/ contact persons: Dino & Josie Rivera (617) 628-1511. The retreat is FREE.
4) The Filipino Apostolate will also hold its Annual Lenten Healing Retreat on Saturday, March 20th, 12 Noon – 5 PM. Save the date. Venue will be announced at a later date.
5) We’d like to invite the Filipino community to celebrate both Palm Sunday (4th Sunday, March 28th) and Easter Sunday (1st Sunday, April 4th) here at St. John the Baptist Church, Quincy. The celebration starts at 12:30 PM (Holy Rosary & Sunday Mass).
The Filipino Apostolate strictly follows the Regular Sunday Mass schedules. We only have one exception to this rule, our Easter Sunday celebration which we observe whenever the Roman Catholic calendar schedules the feast. Since the Apostolate celebrates three (3) major Catholic Church holy days, namely: Easter Sunday, Feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz, and Christmas; the (3) different chapters take turns to celebrate them. This year (2010), Quincy Chapter is scheduled to host the Easter Sunday celebration which falls on April 4th (1st Sunday of the month). Since we can’t move the celebration of Easter Sunday to our scheduled 4th Sunday, we have to switch our Sunday Mass schedule for the month of April to be able to celebrate Easter Sunday at St. John the Baptist in Quincy.
As a result of this switch, West Roxbury Chapter will host the 4th Sunday Mass at the Holy Name Church in W. Roxbury. We will follow the regular Sunday Mass schedule the rest of 2010. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused or confused you.
Filipino Sunday Mass celebration is open to everyone who’d like to attend the scheduled Apostolate Masses at the following locations. Please take note of the new 2010 time schedules.
(1) Every 1st Sunday of the Month:
12:45 PM – Benediction
1:00 PM Mass at the Holy Name Church
